Recipe - Raw chocolate truffles

This recipe is raw, healthy, and gluten and dairy free.

Ingredients
1/2 cup dates - soaked 1-2 hours
1/2 cup nuts - soaked 1-2 hours
1/4 cup raisins or other dried fruit of choice
1 tablespoon cacao powder
2 teaspoons liquid - choose from the liquid the dates were soaked in, orange or other fresh juice, or if you want to be a little naughty use your favourite liqueur.
For coating - 1/4 - 1/2 cup dessicated coconut, which can be mixed with a little cacao powder or cinnamon if you like, OR grated raw chocolate.


Instructions

Measure the coconut or grated raw chocolate onto a plate, mixing with the extra flavourings if desired. The amount you need will depend on the size of balls you choose to make and how thickly you want to coat them, but any extra can be saved in a plastic bag or small container to use next time.

Mix all the other ingredients together using a blender or small food processor. (or double the amount to use in a larger processor)


Chill in the fridge for a couple of hours until it firms up. You can omit this but the process is a lot stickier if you do.
Roll into balls and coat with the coconut or grated chocolate. Keep in the fridge. I find they happily last a few days, although they usually get eaten pretty quickly.

Review - Honeypie Minerals

I was lucky enough to win a competition recently and receive some Honeypie Mineral goodies as the prize. Here are the goodies:


I had not heard of this company before coming across the competition, but I am a fan of natural and eco-friendly products so was keen to try them out. 

Firstly the brush. The case is made from recycled aluminium and the bristles are synthetic but therefore cruelty free. The brush feels nice and soft but the thing I love best is it's just one of those things that feels so good to handle, a lovely size and weight in my hand. 



The little pots contain foundation, blusher, eye-shadow and a green corrector. The powders seem quite similar in texture. As I have rather dry skin, that doesn't have the best texture - old age bah - they look a little powdery if applied to my bare face, but slap on a good moisturiser first and allow it to soak in and they go on great. Which of course I would do normally; I was just being over-eager to play around at first.

I chose the light colour foundation, as I do have a pale skin, and the colour was as I hoped. The blusher is called Candy and looks a little less pink on my face than in the pot, but that actually works really well with my complexion,  and I expect it depends on your skin tone. 



The eye-shadow is called mushroom, and was a little darker than I imagined but it is a really nice tone and blends well and can be applied wet or dry. At £4.99 I think it is a real bargain for a natural mineral eye-shadow. 

In fact having had a look around the site I think the prices are really reasonable. Delivery is free on UK orders over £15 and there's a nice selection of products.

I haven't tried the green corrector as I don't really have the complexion for it. I think this may make a nice little gift for a friend.

Recipe - Raw lime, ginger, and mango pleesecake

This dessert is raw, gluten and dairy free, and very healthy!

Ingredients: 

Base
I cup nuts (I used walnuts and almonds on this occasion but your choice)
I cup dates
1/2 tsp ground ginger
Filling:
2 avacados
Juice and zest of 4 limes
1 tablespoon coconut oil
1 tablespoon raw honey
Topping:
1 Mango, peeled and sliced


Instructions:
1. Put the nuts and dates into 2  bowls, cover with some water,  and soak overnight

2. Drain the nuts and dates and mix using a blender or food processor,  Add the ground ginger and mix in.
3. Press the mixture into the base of a dish or tin



For those of you with a dehydrator, if you prefer the base less moist you can dehydrate at about 40 degrees until it has the texture you like.
4. Scoop the flesh from the avacados and blend with other filling ingredients. Spread onto the base and chill for 1-2 hours.
5. Decorate with the sliced mango. I was very short of time at this point so this one is a very casual sort of decoration:

New Year's Resolution

I didn't intend to make any reslutions this year. However, I got up deciding that the time was ripe for giving myself a little kick up the bum to get myself on track with all the things I keep half-heartedly doing. Or promising myself I will do, sometime...

 The first thing was to make a better go of getting my life balance right. I find it so easy to get bogged down doing what I think I should be rather than seizing the moment. So I started the day with a little trip out in the sunshine. Splendid!  

Home for lunch and a commitment to myself to start eating more healthily and particularly to eat more raw food. Enjoyed a salad lunch and several smoothies, though I am having some cooked items on my plate for dinner - as well as some raw. Need to work on the raw main-meal recipes to add variety. 



Some housework, some reading, and now another promise I made myself - get the hang of blogging. So here goes...
